Starting Line

Well I had some free time today to have a look at Cafe Racers again. It has been way too long since I last put my imagination to the grind stone to think about how I would put mine together. So after a lenghty search of web sites, both familiar to me and new ones I have come up with some great ideas. Unfortunatley none of which were anywhere close to my skill level or price range. However I have decided what mine is going to look like and the order of the build.

The Base = 1979 Yamaha XS650 (thats the plan anyways) a side by side Twin 650. The high displacement twin put out great power. From what I have read the bike rides great after suspension adjustments.
I know, I know she isn't too pretty right here. But I promise you she will be drop dead gorgeous when im done.
Extream Makeover: Cafe Racer Edition

The first item on my list is a streched Cafe Racer style tank.
Something with loads of Classic style. I have been searching Benjies Cafe Racers a lot and the tank of the Pinas 550 seems to be right up my alley.
Step two is a seat pan. The generally accepted style of CR seats does not look to be too comfortable but after searching a bit i found this one on BCR. I really like the style of it. The fabric on the seat is streched over the battery box tunnel. Great style.
That should be a good beginning point. It seems to be the most costly but the money will be well spent to have a Classic bike that really turns heads. I really cant wait to start!
